Gmail App Gets Jelly Bean Upgrade

Google has upgraded Gmail app for Android and includes impressive new changes.

The new Gmail app is presently only for Jelly Bean users and incorporates some of the most important changes made to the app since inception. Users can now save time on the most important actions of the app: reply, archive and search. The new upgrade lets users reply to and/or archive mails right from the notifications bar. Tapping on the notification does not open the complete mail but instead presents two options to the reader.

Apart from quick replying, the upgrade also lets users set specific tones for messages being fileterd directly under a particular label. According to the Google Blog Post explain the upgrade: You can combine the notification feature additional features like the ability to customize which messages you receive notifications for and set up different sounds for individual labels. For Eg: If you create a separate folder for all messages from your colleagues, you can also set a special ringtone for those messages so you know when there’s an important message you can’t ignore.

The search functionality is also improved with better search, says Google.

We definitely like the upgrade but wish Google rolls out the upgrade to non-Jelly Bean users also. Considering a very small percentage of users have upgraded their devices, we think it only fair that Google bring such upgrades to all their Android versions. Not our fault if our smartphone maker failed to send OTA updates, it it now?
